Tim Duncan Returns Back to Spurs As Assistant Head Coach

Tim Duncan has returned back to the San Antonio Spurs. No, he hasn’t come out of retirement, but rather, as an assistant head coach to Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich (pronounced Pop-po-vich). For Duncan, loyalty has always been everything, having played his entire career with the Spurs, winning five NBA Championships and three Finals MVPs. This will be a first for Duncan being a part of a coaching staff that also features former NBA player Ime Udoka (pronounced E-may U-doh-kah) and former WNBA player Becky Hammon.

“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” said Popovich.

Current Spurs players such as DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge will greatly benefit from Duncan returning back to the organization, learning under his tutelage now that he is an assistant coach. It should be also noted that Popovich’s wisdom and expertise has influenced many of his former assistant coaches, including Mike Budenholzer (pronounced Boo-den-holz-ser), who now coaches the Milwaukee Bucks. Will Duncan follow in the footsteps of those former assistant coaches before him, and move on to a career as a head coach in the NBA? Only time well tell.
