Hoop Trends NBA Nightly Notables: November 16th

Dallas Mavericks 92 Philadelphia 76ers 86

Top Performers:

  • Chandler Parsons – 20 points (8/11 from the field), five rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes of play.
  • Dirk Nowitzki – 21 points (3/6 from three-point range) and five rebounds.
  • Nerlens Noel – 12 points, 12 rebounds and two steals.
  • Jahlil Okafor – 19 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
  • T.J. McConnell – 13 points (6/9 from the field), seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Chalk up another L for the Sixers. The Mavs went into Philly and handed the Sixers their 11th loss of the year in a truly heartbreaking game. The Sixers are now 0-11, but there is a glimmer of hope. Despite the massive amount of turnovers by the Sixers tonight, players are starting to standout and shine. T.J. McConnell is looking like he could be an extremely talented point guard in the future, Jahlil Okafor is still doing a great job of scoring, and Nerlens Noel is picking up right where he left off last season, recording yet another double-double. Unfortunately, the Sixers weren’t enough to get the W against Dirk Nowitzki and company.

Play of the Game:

Indiana Pacers 95 Chicago Bulls 96

Top Performers:

  • Paul George – 26 points, 7 rebounds, and five assists.
  • Monta Ellis – 20 points, four rebounds, and six assists.
  • Derrick Rose – 23 points, six assists, and two steals.
  • Jimmy Butler – 17 points, three rebounds, and four assists.

This game was a thriller! It was a close game down the stretch, but Chicago came out on top. Paul George continues to be on fire this season despite the loss. Derrick Rose has played great basketball and looking pretty healthy. Jimmy Butler came up big in this game though. His incredible defense is what sealed the deal in this win for the Bulls.

Play of the Game:

Boston Celtics 111 Houston Rockets 95

Top Performers:

  • Isaiah Thomas – 23 points (9/12 from the field), six assists and two steals.
  • Avery Bradley – 21 points, one rebound and two assists.
  • James Harden – 16 points, one board and three assists.
  • Trevor Ariza – 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

The nightmare season continues for the Houston Rockets. The NBA MVP runner-up, James Harden, has been pretty inconsistent to start this season. Dwight Howard really struggled tonight, only finishing with four points. I would say the real story here is how well the Celtics have played. Brad Stevens is turning this young Celtics team into something pretty special. Isaiah Thomas has been phenomenal so far this season and so has Marcus Smart.

Play of the Game:

Oklahoma City Thunder 114 Memphis Grizzlies 122

Top Performers:

  • Russell Westbrook – 40 points, four rebounds, 14 assists and three steals.
  • Serge Ibaka – 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
  • Mario Chalmers (yes, Mario Chalmers) – 29 points, two rebounds and one assist.
  • Mike Conley – 22 points, four rebounds and nine assists.

Despite yet another monstrous game from Russell Westbrook, OKC couldn’t hang on against the Grizzlies. Mario Chalmers really stepped up and got the foul line a lot. He got 13 of his 29 points from the line. Mike Conley distributed the ball pretty well and contributed on the scoring end. Zach Randolph had a double-double and Marc Gasol added 17 points. This was the win this Grizzlies team needed.

Play of the Game:

Portland Trailblazers 80 Sam Antonio Spurs 93

Top Performers:

  • Al-Farouq Aminu – 17 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
  • Damian Lillard – 27 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
  • Kawhi Leonard – 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Manu Ginobili – 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

The Spurs are a really good basketball team and Kawhi Leonard is just a beast. This Spurs team has so many players that can step up and Kawhi has done it a bit. Damian Lillard is having a great year though. He’s been unloading points on teams and getting his teammates involved. It just wasn’t enough to beat the Spurs.

Play of the Game:

Los Angeles Lakers 101 Phoenix Suns 120

Top Performers:

The Lakers continue to struggle as they fall to the Suns. Brandon Knight unloads a triple-double on the Kobe Bryant-less Lakers and they just couldn’t seem to stop him. On the bright side for the Lakers, Jordan Clarkson has looked phenomenal this season. D’Angelo Russell played 27 minutes against the Suns, which is really nice to see. The sad part about this game is that Tyson Chandler dropped a donut and the Lakers still lost by 19. The Lakers may not be winning this season, but at least their young core is developing.
