Boston Celtics Acquire Perry Jones III From Oklahoma City Thunder

According to multiple reports, the Oklahoma City Thunder will trade Forward Perry Jones and a second round pick to the Boston Celtics. The Thunder in return will be getting a second round pick from the Celtics.

The Thunder clearly made this move in order to free some cap space after giving big man Enes Kanter a whopping $70 million deal to prevent him from going to Portland. How much will the Thunder save now in cap space? Well with this trade the Thunder save $7 million in cap space after trading away Jones to the Celtics.

Jones didn’t really impress all that much last season averaging 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in 43 games last season. However, when he was on, he was really on. There was some good numbers being shown from Jones — mainly when he was filling in for then injured Kevin Durant. During that three game span, Jones scored 32, 20 and then 16 points before injuring his knee and missing some games himself.

Durant even mentioned at one point Jones is the “best athlete in the league today”. Pretty strong words from one of the better athlete’s in the NBA today in Durant.

With Jones only being 23-years-old and being 6’11” he has a real chance to fit in quite well in the Celtics system as the potential is still very much there for him. Now whether the young man out of Baylor who was drafted 28th overall in the 2012 draft gets a decent amount of playing time, that remains to be seen. However, who knows what Jones could be for a young Celtics group in which you look on paper could be a team with quite of bit of potential despite the large amount of youth.
