The Los Angeles Clippers Are Looking For A Center

After DeAndre Jordan signed a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Clippers are in need of help at the center position. With the free agent market dwindling, there are a few choices left on the market for the Clippers, according to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski.

While JaVale McGee may not be Doc Rivers number one choice, Los Angeles do not have many options. The Clippers have close to $2.2 in exception space available, along with a $1.4 minimum salary spot. While injuries have effected McGee’s game over the past couple of seasons, this may be a good opportunity for him. If the 7-year veteran signs a one-year deal and produces like he did from 2010-2012, he could be looking at a multi-year contract next offseason.

Last season, McGee played 17 games with the Denver Nuggets before getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nevada product played six games for the Sixers before getting waived. After getting waived by Philadelphia, the Boston Celtics were interested in signing the center. McGee wanted a two-year deal with the Celtics, but Boston did not want to give him a player option for the second year.

Along with Los Angeles having interest in McGee, the Clippers have shown interest in Amar’e Stoudemire. While Stoudemire is not the player he used to be, as injuries have taken a toll on him, he can still be a serviceable player off the bench. Even though the 13-year veteran played 16.5 minutes-per-contest with Dallas last season, he still averaged 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds-per-game while shooting 58% from the field. If Stoudemire is willing to take a similar role with the Clippers, he could give the team similar numbers, while giving himself a good opportunity to compete for a championship.
