The Portland Trail Blazers are nearing a maximum extension with Damian Lillard. The deal is expected to be around the $120 million range, which will kickoff during the 2016-17 season. The numbers for the contract depends on on high the salary cap reaches in 2016-17, but the Trail Blazers are willing to pay the maximum they can to keep the point guard, according to ESPN.
With the possibility of LaMarcus Aldridge heading out of town, Portland is trying to make sure they can keep their All-Star point guard and build the team around him. The Trail Blazers have $26.6 million on the books for the 2015-16 season, which does not count Al-Farouq Aminu‘s salary. The team does have money to in bring players like Greg Monroe to build around their All-Star point guard.
In his three season with the Trail Blazers, Lillard has averaged 20.2 points, 6.1 assists-per-game while shooting 43% from the field in 36.7 minutes-per-game. In addition, the third-year guard has played in every game since being drafted out of Weber State in 2012.
