Draft Needs In Indiana

This past season, the Indiana Pacers almost made the playoffs. When Paul George broke his leg in gruesome fashion over the summer, people wrote off the Pacers season (myself included). However, they fought hard and competed every night. George came back near the end of the year and they almost snuck into the playoffs. It was a great effort and they wound up with the 12th pick instead. You would think that the Pacer organization would be happy with the near playoff berth due to the circumstances. However, this was not the case. An article done by Indystar showed that the Pacers want to play fast. With that in mind, here are some ideas for the draft. Here are positions that the Pacers need to upgrade.

Point Guard

George Hill is a hometown hero and solid point guard. His style, however, is halfcourt. He is a halfcourt point guard, not great at running the fast break. The Pacers might look for somebody to replace him and help them play faster.

Center

One of the most confusing players in the league lives in the paint in Indiana. Roy Hibbert has shown flashes of an amazing player. However, he has never truly developed and the Pacers might want to go in a new direction. Plus, a new center might help the Pacers play faster because Roy Hibbert isn’t exactly a speedster.

Draft Pick

  1. Jerian Grant – The Notre Dame guard was an electric scorer and adapt in the pick and roll. He would certainly fit with the faster Pacer team and is a definite possibility.
  1. Cameron Payne – The Murray State guard would be a great fit for the Pacers. Much like Jerian Grant, he is a scorer but also has experience in the pick and roll. The Pacers should consider taking him with their pick.
  1. Frank Kaminsky – The national player of the year is a possible choice for the Pacers. He could play fast, and his shooting touch would help spread the floor. Plus, in the new era of small ball, he could play center and not be dominated. The pace and space era would be a good fit for Kaminsky’s abilities.
  1. Myles Turner – Another stretch big man, Myles Turner, would be a good fit for the Pacers as well. Just shy of seven feet, he would help space the floor like Kaminsky. He is athletic, tough, and would fit well with the Pacers culture. If he is still around when Indiana makes their selection, the Pacers will definitely consider him.

My prediction : Frank Kaminsky, Wisconsin
